In these regions, both the north and south polar ends are extremely cold in winters. Mostly rural areas, which are deprived of sunlight for a long time, receive sunlight at a narrow angle.

In a research conducted by the British in Greenland, a temperature  -66 °C was measured. Because of this feature, the research station was named “Northern Ice”.

4. OYMYAKON (RUSSIA) -71.2 °C

This region referred to as the coldest village in the world, is in Russia. Since it is close to the North Pole circle, although it receives sunlight for a long time in summer, the air temperature is minus degrees even in summer. In 1924,  -71.2 °C was the lowest temperature in the region.

3. DENALI, ALASKA (USA) -73 °C

The lowest temperature measured at this peak, which is the highest point in North America, is -73 °C.

2. VOSTOK (ANTARCTICA) -89.2 °C

In this station, established by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in 1957, the temperature was -89.2 degrees Celsius in 1983. It was the coldest region measured until the 2010s and still is the coldest region “directly” measured today.

1. PLATEAU STATION (ANTARCTICA) -94 °C

In the 2000s, it became the coldest region of the world with -94 °C in measurements made by satellites and reported the coldest temperature measured on earth.

After these data, Vostok Station, the coldest region in the world then became second to plateau station.
